Sunday Sauce

Sunday is a very important day to many.  It is a day to relax, reflect and enjoy the company of loved ones.

If you are travelling to Italy anytime soon, you will see that they take their Sundays very seriously (side tip: don’t arrive on a Sunday).  Most businesses are closed.  Need some toothpaste at the local general store?  Closed.  Looking forward to dining at the highly rated trip advisor restaurant?  Closed. Need to grab a taxi?  Keep looking.

However, there is one thing that is thriving: families and friends getting together to enjoy a meal.  Prior to opening Gaetano’s, this was a staple for our family as well.  We would get together to enjoy a meal at Grandma Dot’s house.  Her feast is something we are bringing to you every Sunday.

She would get her largest pot and slowly cook garlic in extra virgin olive oil until it was golden brown.  Then she would throw in her pureed tomatoes.  She’d let the garlic and tomatoes blend together as she simmered the sauce slowly.  Then came the frying pan.  She would fry up meatballs, sausage and short ribs.  Then throw the meat in the sauce.  This sauce then simmered for two hours on low heat.  She would slap the sauce on spaghetti, then top the pasta with all the meats.  It was the absolute best!  We are now bringing that same flavor to Gaetano’s every Sunday starting at 11am when we open for lunch.  We only make a certain amount, so the earlier your reservation the better!
