Bruschetta vs. Crostini. Very similar, but what is the difference?
Bruschetta and crostini are both Italian appetizers featuring toasted bread with toppings, but they differ primarily in the type and size of bread used. Bruschetta is typically made with larger slices of rustic, country-style bread that are grilled, rubbed with garlic, and topped with ingredients like tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. Crostini, on the other hand, are made from smaller, thinner slices of a baguette or similar bread, toasted until crisp and topped with a variety of spreads or ingredients. While both are delicious and versatile, bruschetta usually has a heartier base, whereas crostini are bite-sized and crispier.
Here at Gaetano’s, we serve Bruschetta with bread from our Uncle Paul at Little Brother’s Bakery / Giuliano’s Gardena. We use fresh, vine ripened roma tomatoes, fresh garlic and basil, all topped generously on roasted bread. Try it out next time you dine in with us!
