Baby & Bridal Shower Hosting Tips

Being the youngest of three girls, I’ve hosted or co-hosted my fair share of bridal and baby showers! Here are some of my favorite tips when planning a shower.

1. Plan Around the Guest of Honor

Think about their personality first. Not everyone enjoys being the center of attention, opening gifts in front of a crowd, or playing games. Tailor the event to what will make them feel most comfortable and celebrated. Do they want a theme? Do they want a big shower with everyone or an intimate party with their closest friends and family? Check in with the guest of honor to see what their wishes are first before getting started.

2. Keep the Timeline Simple

A great shower doesn’t need a packed agenda. Aim for:

• Welcome & mingling
• Food and drinks
• One or two activities or games (if the guest of honor desires)
• Gift opening (if the guest of honor desires)
• Dessert and photos

Guests appreciate a relaxed pace.

3. Make Food Easy to Enjoy

Choose menu items that are easy to eat while socializing:

• Sandwiches
• Fruit and vegetable platters
• Charcuterie
• Salad
• Bite-sized desserts

This keeps the focus on conversation rather than managing a formal meal.

4. Create Meaningful Keepsakes

Instead of lots of games, consider one memorable activity:

• Advice cards for the bride or parents-to-be
• A signed children’s book for a baby shower
• Date night ideas for a bridal shower
• A photo station with instant prints
• Address your own “thank you” cards station so the guest of honor doesn’t need to search for your address.

These become treasured mementos long after the event.

5. Don’t Forget the Details That Matter Most

The little touches make guests feel welcomed:

• Clear invitations with RSVP information
• Plenty of seating
• Easy access to drinks, maybe a “make your own bellini or mimosa” station
• A designated gift table
• A few photos of the guest of honor displayed around the room

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s creating a warm, joyful gathering where everyone can celebrate together.

Bonus tip: Assign a friend or family member to take photos throughout the event so the guest of honor can enjoy the day without worrying about capturing every moment.
